EDIT: In an attempt to get this space up and running, I found this old post and updated it. Like the title says, this story is developing.

GRIP RABBIT HOLE: YouTube was my source

YouTube is the last social-ish platform I am still turning to these days. I need to cut back on some of the videos I am watching, but this short one on ripping gaffer tape is pretty good. I had fallen into a motion lighting/gaffer YouTube hole over a year ago. This morning I came across this video, it is worth a couple minutes of your time.

Grip Tips is a classic channel that offers lots of good information. This video on clips is one of those examples.

Seth Miranda’s is who I borrow from the most. His direct style is informative with a sense of humor. The info is top notch too. As he says, grip outlives whatever camera and lens you have.

The stands we purchased for the school lighting kits were based on this video and my past experiences with cheap stands.

This video showed me that an articulating arm on a travel stand is not a C-Stand, but it is more flexible than a C-Stand.

When I was first shown Cinefoil, I scoffed because I didn’t like the idea of using homemade modifiers. I was wrong. Cinefoil is where it is at.

At the moment, the photography two class I teach is making still-life pictures with the light kits. So I have been thinking a lot about lighting and ways to manipulate light. These videos have been foundational to me expanding my lighting skills, along with looking at a lot of work that is lit.
